Negotiations

Sam Harmon has moved on to work in another department for the Company, so he will no longer be a part of the negotiation committee.  Since his departure left a vacancy, Marvin Moon has been appointed to the negotiation committee.  He is an ATL based grievance representative, President of 2339A and is in his 15th year as a flight attendant.

Marvin will join Romel Williams, Manny Rivero, Suzi Bahan, Cori Horowitz, and Marche Johnson-Cooper along with General Chairperson Sara Gonzales on the committee.  The entire committee maintains their commitment to achieving an industry leading agreement for our IAM ExpressJet Flight Attendants and the addition of Marvin Moon will be a tremendous asset to the committee.

We have not received a further update from the National Mediation Board regarding new meeting dates since the September negotiations session was canceled due to our assigned mediator being on medical leave. We will update you as soon as we receive more information.

 

 

 

 

 

Hotel Committee Update

Hotel-Rooms-SafetyAs many of you know safety is our number one priority when it comes to the Hotel Committee choosing a crew hotel. Of course we want you to have as many amenities and crew discounts also, but being safe is paramount! When you check into a hotel you expect to spend the night in a safe and secure environment and although incidents are rare it is important to always get a room check. Unfortunately you never know if there may be an uninvited guest already awaiting your arrival. Have your pilot stand outside of your room while you take a look around or if you feel comfortable have him/her look for you. Important areas to check are the closet, the bathroom, under the bed and behind the window shades. We also recommend using the slam latch for added security during your stay. These preventative actions could help you in the event of an emergency.

 

Hurricane Joaquin Update

stormy-weatherThough Hurricane Joaquin continued its path well clear of the United States mainland, heavy rains from a separate storm system knocked out power to thousands of homes along the East Coast and some states have experienced flooding.

For ERJ flight attendants the CBA protects you under Section 3.W.2.b., if you are unable to report to work due to hazardous or impassable roads resulting from severe weather you will not be assessed with an attendance occurrence. In addition, please make sure you are following the requirements of the Conscientious Reporting aka the Commuter Clause by taking a screen shot of the PBTs showing open seats for two flights that are scheduled to arrive at least one hour prior to your report time.  If those flights are canceled please take a screen shot of the cancelation(s). Boarding passes will not be required for canceled flights.  However, if the flights are operating you must obtain a boarding pass from the airport.

Under the CRJ CBA you are protected under Section 28.O. The Company is obligated to work with you for the purposes of removing him/her from scheduled duty if your home/domicile is involved in a natural disaster.  Each situation is evaluated on a case-by-case basis for attendance policy applicability.

Please provide as much documentation as possible to show any hazardous or closed roads in your area, such as news reports or pictures.  In addition, make sure to follow the guidelines of your Commuter Clause whether CRJ or ERJ, as the expected severe weather could lead to cancelations and oversold flights system-wide.  If you are having a scheduling issue, make note of time you spoke with scheduling and also take screen shots if necessary.

Open-Time

The Union continues to address Open Time for our Lineholder Flight Attendants as well as picking up pairings from Reserve Flight Attendants. The Company published approximately 375 open time pairings for the month of September and for the month of September, 15% of our Reserve Flight Attendants have flown above minimum monthly guarantee.

 

Grievance Update

Five grievances are in the first step of the grievance process. This week your Grievance Representatives were able to settle four grievances amicably between the Union and the Company. One grievance has been submitted to Grievance Mediation, which is scheduled for December 1st and 2nd in Atlanta, GA.  We have selected Arbitrators for our outstanding grievances; dates are in the process of being confirmed.

Grievance Update

We have two grievances to Step 2 and one more will be appealed to Step 2 next week. The base breakdown for pending Step 2 grievances is as follows:

We have rescheduled grievance mediation for November 12-13.  In addition, we have made significant progress on the grievances pending arbitration. The following arbitrators have been selected:

 

General Grievance 40 Et Al (regarding Catering and Cleaning)                     –              Vernon

02124 Long Et Al (regarding false 1/7 violations preventing trip trading) –              Helburn

 

In addition to these Et Al grievances, there is a termination grievance, which has also had an arbitrator selected.  We are very close to confirming dates for these arbitrations as well and will update you as soon as we have the dates finalized.
