***Negotiations Update***

Your IAM joint contract negotiations committee met from Monday, June 13, 2016 and continued through Friday, June 17, 2016 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The following is an update from this week’s session:

Section 5 Travel Expenses – After several exchanges this week, your committee has tentatively agreed to all language in this section other than a single issue related to per-diem. Your committee will continue to address this issue when we reconvene negotiations the week of June 28, 2016.

Section 6 Training – Your committee presented the Company a proposal addressing our needs related to training and we have narrowed the open issues down to a few, which are contingent on other sections of the agreement which have not been addressed yet.

Section 9 Sick Leave – Your committee is happy to report that we have reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) on this section that will provide improvements for all Flight Attendants.

Section 11 Leaves of Absences – Your committee presented this comprehensive section to the Company during the last session and we are waiting for a response from the Company.

Section 14 Moving Expenses – Your committee presented this comprehensive section to the Company during the last session and we are waiting for a response from the Company.

Section 22 Union Activities – After several exchanges this week and much discussion across the table, your committee is very disappointed that the last Company proposal failed to adequately provide the Union the ability to properly represent our members. Your committee is prepared to address this during our next session.

Section 23 General – Your committee is happy to report that we have reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) on this section that will provide improvements for all Flight Attendants.

As of this session, the following sections of the JCBA have been tentatively agreed to:

  • Section 1, Recognition and Scope
  • Section 7, Seniority
  • Section 9, Sick Leave
  • Section 12, Furlough, Displacement and Recall
  • Section 13, Filling of Vacancies
  • Section 15, Uniforms
  • Section 17, Investigation
  • Section 18, Grievance
  • Section 19, System Board of Adjustment

  • Section 21, Union Security or Dues Check Off
  • Section 23, General

Reserve Issues

There have been several questions surrounding why some payroll overpayments result in a repayment notice, with the ability to make several smaller payments back to the Company, and some result in paycheck deductions without notice.  There are two separate overpayments that are taking place, and both have a different result. If the overpayment is an error on the Company’s behalf (i.e. a Flight Attendant was paid 80 hours on their first check rather than 40 hours), then the Flight Attendant will receive an overpayment notice and will be required to notify the Company of how they prefer to pay those additional 40 hours back.  If the overpayment is due to a Flight Attendant dropping/trading a trip after the payroll snapshot has been taken, and they were in fact paid for a trip that they did not end up flying, then the overpayment will result in a paycheck deduction on the next check.   This is due being paid current month, and not in arrears. For the tentative calendar of payroll snapshots, please utilize the “Crew Pay/Payroll Dates” tab on our IAM XJT Flight Attendant App, along with plenty of other useful helpful info on the go. If you have any further questions, please reach out to your local lodge grievance representative(s).
