ExpressJet Weekly Update

July Grievance Schedules
Due to short staffing on both the CRJ and ERJ sides, many grievance trip drops have been denied for July.  Due to the trip drop denials, July grievance schedules will be uploaded on the IAM app a little later than usual.  Also, availability may be cut down due to flying schedules but remember, it is your contractual right to have a representative present in any disciplinary meeting and the meetings may be rescheduled in order to have access to your representative.  Please coordinate directly with your representatives if you have any questions.

Negotiations Update
contract_negotiationsYour IAM joint contract negotiations committee met from Monday, June 27, 2016 and continued through Thursday, June 30, 2016 in Denver, Colorado.

Your committee exchanged proposals with the Company on the following Sections:

Section 5 Travel Expenses – After several exchanges and many discussions at the table we are very close to finalizing the outstanding issue related to per diem in an effort to reach a tentative agreement.

Section 11 Leaves of Absences – This section of the contract contains very important language and is effected by other sections of the contract, which makes negotiation very complex. It is also one of the largest sections of the contract.

In addition, your committee spent substantial time researching bidding systems and their potential affect on quality of life for our members.

Due to scheduling conflicts the mediator has cancelled our July session. However, we have discussed dates for August and September with the mediator and the Company. Once dates are finalized, they will be communicated to the membership.

Negotiations updates can be accessed at: www.iamDL142.org or on the IAM ExpressJet App which can be downloaded by searching IAMAW on your App or Google Play store.

DOT Denies NAI UK Exemption  #DenyNAI
submitted by Sara Gonzales

NAI-Day-of-Action-May-12-2016-4-1024x682

After the hard work of IAM members and the IAM Legislative Department, the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) denied an exemption for a foreign air carrier permit to Norwegian Air UK Limited (Norwegian UK), another perpetrator of the same scheme as Norwegian Air International (NAI).

This scheme has the grave potential to outsource airline jobs to third party employment agencies in Singapore and Thailand, which they have already done in their European operations.  We have seen the outcome of this exact business model, which lead to the decimation of the maritime industry in the United States.

While this dismissal of their application for exemption is a definitive step in the right direction, we are calling on the DOT to deny their applications for foreign air carrier permits in their entirety and protect our U.S. airline jobs from this scheme which skirts so many safety and security protections.
