IAM/BRITISH AIRWAYS NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

As was communicated previously, the Company and Union commenced formal Section 6 negotiations with the first meeting occurring on July 13, 2017.  At that meeting, your Union negotiating committee received the same presentation most if not all of you have seen by now, followed by a proposal to outsource the remaining 10 stations that are staffed by IAM employees.  After that proposal was made, the Union requested all data and costing it used in arriving at that decision.  Also discussed were previous requests submitted to the Company by the Union dating back to May 18, 2017 for data relative to the 600+ current IAM members.  The last of the data requested in May was delivered to the Union over the last week and completed on July 27.  We are currently still awaiting delivery of the Company generated information related to outsourcing.

Last week the Company announced via an internal communication that meetings were set to take place on August 14, 15 and 16 to continuing the negotiations process.  On Friday, July 28, I notified the Company that the Union was cancelling the August dates because 2 weeks is not enough time to work with our Strategic Resources Department Economists to make the assessments of the data and to produce costing data that is used at the table, and because we are still waiting on the outsourcing.

Also occurring during the first meeting, was the revelations related to Steve Clark.  I have received dozens of calls from agents that are upset and believing that his departure is somehow related to past negotiations.  At this point, a very few number of facts exist and they are that he is no longer employed by BA, he is being investigated and the Company is not commenting on it at this time.  We are waiting, expecting at some point, to receive some type of disclosure as to the reasons behind his departure.

The only source for accurate information concerning these negotiations will be from District Lodge 142 and will be released on District letterhead only.  As always, if you have any questions about this process, please give me a call at (859) 653-4037 or email me at .

With best wishes, I remain

Sincerely and fraternally,

James M. Samuel
GENERAL CHAIR
