As we are all aware, being able to qualify for and maintain a SIDA badge and necessary endorsements is a requirement of our employment and from time to time the governmental agencies responsible for badging qualifications modify those requirements. These changes are outside the control of the Company and the Union.
The Company notified the Union of a change in the badging qualifications by the US Customs Department. This change has resulted in the requirement to re-apply and qualify for a US Customs clearance. This process has already begun.
Some of you may be notified via mail that your application has been rejected. If this happens please notify management immediately.
In order for you to maintain your employment you must appeal this rejection. The directions for appeal are in the letter sent to you by the Customs Department. Please follow the instructions completely. Remember there are strict time limits for appeals. While your case is being appealed you will be allowed to continue working. If you do not appeal or are ultimately denied the Customs clearance your employment may be terminated.
